New ‘Captain America 2’ Concept Art Previews Winter Soldier

It’s an interesting time for me in this biz. On the one hand we can’t avoid the endless Summer Movie promotion and on the other hand I leave for Cannes in less than two weeks. Of course, content from the summer movie promotional teams will always far outweigh the majority of content released to promote Cannes Film Festival titles and today we’re getting content for one of next summer’s movies, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Obviously I have to depend on others to explain a lot of what is going on in these pics, and as such I have learned the above piece of Captain America 2 concept art features the character known as The Winter Soldier in the new film, also known as the Bucky Barnes character played by Sebastian Stan.

Now the one thing I don’t understand is how Bucky is also going to find his way into the modern era the same way Captain America (Chris Evans) did, but I assume all that will be explained when the film hits theaters on April 14, 2014.

The picture above was featured in the pages of Entertainment Weekly and scanned and uploaded online and in addition to the photo, CBM transcribed Marvel exec Kevin Feige’s comments on the new film:

“We weren’t going back to World War II. Cap cannot travel in time. So while Tony can go home to Malibu and Thor goes up to Asgard and Hulk can sort of ride the rails, Cap was stuck. So Cap does stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has nowhere else to go. But he’s not necessarily comfortable there. And just as he’s given permission to let go of the past and to focus on the modern world, a ghost comes up. With the Greatest Generation in World World II, there’s a tendency to reflect on that period and say, ‘Things were black and white back then, and now it’s hard to know who the bad guys are.’ ‘We wanted to play on that a little wit Cap being uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D., and in particular Nick Fury, operates.”
