Writer/director John August (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish) has optioned Steve Hely’s novel “How I Became a Famous Novelist,” reports Variety. August will adapt the book and may direct the film.
In this blistering evisceration of celebrity culture and literary fame, a roguish loser sets out to write the best-sellingest best seller of all time. When he actually pulls it off, he winds up tearing like a tornado across America’s cultural landscape.
“It’s about thinking you have the system all figured out, realizing you don’t, then faking it,” said August.
