Argo on DVD Blu-ray today
For the next few days you’re going to be seeing several articles talking about why Argo doesn’t “deserve” to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Of course, the people making these arguments don’t realize they are more-or-less shouting in the wind. From my perspective, Argo is a perfectly fine film. I enjoyed it, though I did have some issues with the pacing and the over-the-top dramatic ending that I didn’t necessarily think fit with the pace of the rest of the film.

Does it “deserve” to win Best Picture? Sure, then again, I don’t really know what that means. What does a film have to do to “deserve” to win Best Picture and who decides if it’s so deserving? What if you liked it and I didn’t? Which one of us is “right”? This, my friends, is why I have fun predicting the Oscars, my level of “deserving” only extends to hoping I get all of my predictions right. I’ll let others haggle over which one is better. After all, has already been filed.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season
I just finished watching this second season on Blu-ray and I enjoyed it, though I’m not sure I would recommend buying it. With only ten episodes per season and a $30 price tag, why not just wait the series out and by it all at once? I have to assume HBO is going to put together a great bit of packaging and I have a feeling it will be well worth the wait.

On the Waterfront (Criterion Collection)
I’ve only had a chance to watch half of this so far, but what I watched looked phenomenal, though viewers not interested in a lot of grain in their black-and-white image may have a few complaints. The image, by my standards, is outstanding and this collection comes stacked with special features. For a full look at the special features line-up for the 2-disc Blu-ray and 3-disc DVD, click here.

Undefeated on DVD Blu-ray today
Now this is a fantastic documentary and speaking of what “deserves” to win an Oscar, this one is certainly worthy of being named Best Documentary, as it was almost one year ago exactly. I wrote a little more about it last year when I premiered a clip from the film. I’m not saying you should buy it, but I’m definitely saying you should, at the very least, rent it.

Now here’s a solid thriller that sort of loses its way in the end, though it works well enough up to that point to make it worth a watch. You can read my full theatrical review here.

The Insider
The Insider on DVD Blu-ray today
It’s a week that keeps on giving. Michael Mann’s The Insider is a spectacular movie and one well worth consideration on Blu-ray. I haven’t seen this transfer with my own eyes, and by the looks of it, I can’t find a review on the two sites I trust. Bad sign?

Top Gun 3-D
Top Gun 3-D on DVD Blu-ray today
Do you really need to watch Top Gun in 3-D at home? If you don’t know the answer, lemme help you… No. I caught the Top Gun 3-D event in IMAX recently and the big draw was seeing it on the massive screen, not the 3-D. So, if your screen at home is somewhere around 60 feet wide, then by all means pick this up, otherwise save a couple bucks and pick up the original version. It actually is a damned good Blu-ray.

Ugh, never again. If you need any more of my opinion on this one, consult my review.

Never saw it and don’t really have much of a desire to. I think it’s a Nickelodeon movie for kids.

Atlas Shrugged II: The Strike
I can’t tell you how tempted I am to cut and paste what I wrote above, only to have it be a metaphor this time, but that might be confusing.
