‘Sin City 2’ Has Its Dame, the ‘Entourage’ Movie is On and Verbinski Heads to ‘Pyongyang’

1.) Dimension announced Eva Green (Casino Royale, Dark Shadows) and Julia Garner (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) have joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For with Green set to play the titular “Dame”, a role long thought to potentially go to Angelina Jolie. This dame’s name is Ava Lord, described in the press release as every man’s most glorious dreams come true as well as every man’s darkest nightmares. Garner will play a young stripper opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt who plays Johnny, a cocky gambler on a mission to destroy the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game. Filming is currently underway for an October 4 release.

2.) Gore Verbinski (Rango, The Lone Ranger) is set to direct a film adaptation of Guy Delisle’s graphic novel “Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea” at New Regency with Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) writing the screenplay. The dark comedy is about outsourcing run amok when a young animator sent to North Korea is accused of espionage. [Deadline]

3.) Bradley Cooper is set to star in The Man From Primrose Lane based on James Renner’s novel following true-crime writer David Neff, who, in investigating the strange murder mystery of a recluse known as “the man with a thousand mittens,” quickly becomes obsessively embroiled in a chain of serial murders. The closer Neff comes to uncovering the true identity of the Man from Primrose Lane, the more he discovers his own dangerous connection to the series of crimes. Chad Feehan (“Southland”) is writing the screenplay. [Deadline]

4.) I’m not sure how many are interested in this, but HBO has greenlit a film adaptation of their cancelled TV series “Entourage” to be directed by series creator Doug Ellin, who wrote the screenplay. Deals are already underway with series cast members including Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven.

I didn’t watch the show, but apparently it ended with talent agent Ari Gold (Piven) finally giving up his career and pledged his devotion to his long suffering gorgeous wife (Perry Reeves), only to get a last minute phone call offering him his dream job of running a film studio, knowing he’ll lose her if he says yes. [Deadline]

5.) A couple of recent release date moves has 20th Century Fox’s buddy-cop comedy The Heat starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock moving from April 5 to June 28 and as a results Sony has shifted their Evil Dead remake up a week, from April 12 to April 5 where it’s only opening day competition is Jurassic Park 3-D.
