2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

[5:54:02 PM] Laremy says: The #sagawards tweets are sad. #sadawards

[5:54:27 PM] Brad says: Oh man, it looks like this goes until 7:02. My fault, a little longer than an hour.

[5:57:10 PM] Brad says: We’re back! Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman will now tell us Les Miserables is nominated for Best Ensemble.

[5:58:20 PM] Brad says: Laremy had a dream… in it… he was an actor.

[5:59:13 PM] Brad says: Alec Baldwin is our next presenter and he looks very serious. Time for Dick Van Dyke to get his Lifetime Achievement Award.

[6:00:16 PM] Brad says: When he says “Dick laid the groundwork” it seems like he’s trying to make me laugh at an inappropriate joke, but that’s just me looking to be entertained by juvenile humor.

[6:03:46 PM] Brad says: I think Laremy fell asleep. He ate a lot of candy earlier today.

[6:04:40 PM] Brad says: The montage is over and now Dick will get his award.

[6:07:56 PM] Brad says: Just learned Laremy has a vet emergency and had to bail on the live blog so unfortunately you’re stuck with me for the rest of the show.

[6:10:14 PM] Brad says: I have to say something, Dick Van Dyke gave one of the better speeches I’ve heard for a lifetime achievement award. Short, to the point and it made sense. That’s going against the grain. I like it.

[6:10:48 PM] Brad says: Then again, people seem to really appreciate rambling hypocrisy. Can’t please everyone I guess.

[6:14:36 PM] Brad says: We are back and Amy Poehler and Neil Patrick Harris will now present for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

[6:15:18 PM] Brad says: I still need to watch more “Boardwalk Empire” and now that “Breaking Bad” is on Netflix I need to check that out.

[6:15:51 PM] Brad says: They really take a long time to announce each one of these nominees.

[6:16:26 PM] Brad says: And the winner is Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”)

[6:16:44 PM] Brad says: It’s his first win, which seems a little surprising to me.

6:17:42 PM: Okay, I think I can shut off the “Brad says” now. I think we all know I’m the only one doing this now.

6:19:41 PM: Dev Patel is our next presenter to present The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel as an Ensemble nominee? Did the rest of the cast stay home? I mean, I understand the UK cast wouldn’t want to make the trip just to lose, but that’s a little surprising.

6:20:33 PM: Taye Diggs and Busy Phillips are our next presenters for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

6:21:25 PM: I feel this is a Claire Danes win. I’ve never seen “Homeland” but doesn’t everyone love that show?

6:22:35 PM: And the winner is Claire Danes (“Homeland”)

6:23:34 PM: So Best Drama series is the last television show we have to get through before the rest of the movie awards are announced.

6:24:27 PM: Can’t wait to see who wins that Ensemble award… primarily because Actor is a layup, though the Actress results could be interesting.

6:26:01 PM: Jessica Chastain is out for the In Memoriam presentation.

6:31:03 PM: 32 minutes to go folks… One more TV award and three movie.

6:33:23 PM: Another Silver Linings trailer. Great movie, go see it, can it win Ensemble? I think so.

6:35:05 PM: Alfred Molina and Sigourney Weaver are our next presenters and Best Television Drama is the award… “Homeland”?

6:37:51 PM: And the winner is “Downton Abbey”

6:38:04 PM: The lady of the house loves that show.

6:39:48 PM: I wish I had time to watch television so I could tell you who this is that’s speaking.

6:40:16 PM: And just when you thought we might get a movie award, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field come out to present Lincoln as a Best Ensemble nominee.

6:41:08 PM: I apologize for not having much to say, but there really isn’t much to say.

6:41:46 PM: Okay, now Robert De Niro is coming out and he has an envelope!

6:42:01 PM: It’s an award and he’ll present Best Actress…

6:42:23 PM: Chastain or Lawrence?

6:42:55 PM: It should be Marion Cotillard, but that’s just me.

6:44:15 PM: And the winner is Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)

6:45:28 PM: Uh oh, all the Silver Linings haters are lining up on Twitter. The place to go to air your grievances… or the comment section below if necessary. But Silver Linings is fantastic.

6:46:29 PM: Jennifer Lawrence refers to Harvey Weinstein as a “rascal” and that speech seemed a lot like an Oscar pitch to me. Still, love the movie and her performance.

6:47:25 PM: And I will continue to predict Lawrence for the Oscar win and that win would seem like a big help for the film to win Ensemble.

6:49:30 PM: I think that’s Tyler Perry in that Sylvan Learning commercial.

6:50:01 PM: A trailer for Django Unchained, which wasn’t even nominated for a SAG and was actually the best film of the year. My opinion of course.

6:50:29 PM: Oh the drama, who will win Best Actor?

6:52:19 PM: Viola Davis is our next presenter and the award is Best Actor… take a guess.

6:54:19 PM: Wow, spoiler clip from Flight

6:54:29 PM: And the winner is Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

6:54:48 PM: Ensemble is all that’s left and I’m assuming we’re going to have a commercial first.

6:55:42 PM: Day-Lewis gives a shout out to Joaquin Phoenix, that was nice of him.

6:57:27 PM: Jude Law will present Best Ensemble.. no commercials here folks.

6:58:05 PM: And the winner for Best Ensemble is Argo

6:58:27 PM: And there it is folks… your Best Picture winner.

7:01:27 PM: And that’s it for me for tonight folks. Thanks for joining and I’ll have a lot more to say about this a little later and next week.

[7:34:01 PM] Laremy says: Looks like Bugsy is going to be okay! Whew. Thanks for everyone’s concern, sorry I missed the rest of the blog, but rest assured I’ll be bringing it come Oscar night.
