Latest MPAA Ratings: BULLETIN NO: 2254

Yes, even the MPAA takes vacation and as a result today marks the first day of new ratings for 2013 and it’s a long one as the organization gets back in the swing of things with new ratings for nine upcoming films you’re likely to recognize along with several you probably won’t.

Looking over the list nothing really jumps out at me that’s all that intriguing, though a pair of films I saw and reviewed at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival are here including the Michael Shannon-led film The Iceman (read my review here) and Robert Redford‘s The Company You Keep (read my review here). Neither film was particularly good so I don’t have too much to say, though Iceman did feature a nearly unrecognizable Chris Evans.

The Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief got an R-rating for sexual content and language and it looks like Sam Raimi‘s Oz The Great And Powerful is going family friendly with a PG rating.

I do love the reasoning for the PG-13-rating for the Nicholas Sparks adaptation Safe Haven, which apparently has some rather serious “thematic material involving threatening behavior”. So watch out for that.

Steven Soderbergh‘s Side Effects co-starring Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara scored an R for sexuality, nudity, violence and language.

There’s a little more to find including Fox’s animated feature The Croods, the Jackie Robinson pic 42 and the much-talked-about Ginger & Rosa starring Elle Fanning.
