2013 Visual Effects Society Nominees Led by ‘Hobbit’, ‘Life of Pi’ and ‘Avengers’

The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced their nominees for the 2013 VES Awards and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is leading the way with seven nominations, followed closely by Life of Pi and The Avengers with six each and ParaNorman leading the animated nominees with five.

With so many categories at the VES Awards, it’s tough to really place a finger on where to look if you’re looking for help with your Oscar predictions, but the five nominees for outstanding visual effects in a visual effects-driven feature is going to be your best bet, and of the five nominees — The Hobbit, Prometheus, Life of Pi, The Avengers and Battleship — only Battleship didn’t make the shortlist for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars. The other four films, as it so happens, are also my top four films currently predicted to be nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars with Snow White and the Huntsman being the fifth.

Snow White, however, wasn’t nominated for a single award. In fact, the only films on the Visual Effects shortlist that were nominated were The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises with one nomination each.

I have listed all the feature film nominations directly below and you can see my current Best Visual Effects predictions at the Oscars right here. The awards will be handed out on February 5.
