‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot Gets Dated and Singer’s New ‘X-Men’ Flick Considering 48 FPS

Bryan Singer has been a little active on Twitter as of late, teasing fans over his return to the director’s chair on the X-Men film franchise as he will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past. One of his most recent tweets included the script for the film written by Simon Kinberg, with a cover page that includes the following quote from Charles Darwin:

As new species are formed through natural evolution, others will become rarer and rarer, and finally extinct. The forms which stand in closest competition with those undergoing modification and improvement will naturally suffer most.

He also mentioned how he’s met with Production Designer John Mayhre to discuss concepts for the film, but now new rumors have him potentially considering shooting in HFR 3D, an idea that was teased by Ian McKellen who will be returning as the elder Magneto.

In the interview, which you can watch to the right, McKellen says, “I know [Bryan is] a big fan of The Hobbit… He went to the opening with James Cameron in New Zealand. And he was very enthusiastic about the new technology, so whether we’ll be filming X-Men in 3D and 48 FPS, we’ll find out…”

While unconfirmed, Singer tweeted his thoughts on the film, posting, “Just saw [The Hobbit]. Having some serious frame rate envy. Amazing and involving. Loved it!”

I personally want to see more with the technology, though I don’t think action-packed spectacle films are the films that should necessarily be exploring the technique. I’d rather see someone like Steve McQueen do it with more intimate human dramas that are slower and more controlled, though I think they would also need to be sure to stay away from handheld filmmaking… at least for now.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on July 18, 2014 with James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult all set to return.

In other comic book news, Josh Trank (Chronicle) is officially on board to direct the Fantastic Four reboot for 20th Century Fox, which has set a March 6, 2015 release date for the film. There isn’t much more news to report on that front, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing actor shortlists very soon as for who will be playing Reed Richards, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and The Thing. Any preferences?
