2.) Nick Hornby, the writer of books like High Fidelity and About a Boy, as well as the screenplay for An Education, will adapt the Cheryl Strayed book Wild. Hornby was a personal choice of long-time fan Reese Witherspoon, who is attached to star and produce. Strayed’s memoir tells the story of a woman who attempts to get her life back together after a divorce and the death of her mother by taking a 1100-mile solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. 3.) Wreck-It Ralph co-writer Jennifer Lee has been tapped to co-direct Disney’s Frozen alongside Chris Buck (Tarzan). Don’t worry, the film is not a kid-friendly remake of the recent frost-bitten ski-lift horror flick, but rather an animated tale set in a kingdom where an eternal winter has set in. The film centers on a girl who teams with a mountain man to find the evil Snow Queen and put an end to her icy spell. Kristen Bell will voice the lead protagonist, while Idina Menzel will voice the Snow Queen.

4.) Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) has joined Kevin Costner in an untitled McG actioner. The script by Adi Hasak and Luc Besson (Taken, The Professional) was originally titled Three Days to Kill and centers on a dying Service agent who attempts to complete a final mission and reconnect with his estranged daughter. He’s also experimenting with a drug that is supposed to prolong his life, but also offers hallucinatory side effects. [Deadline]

5.) Director Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me) will begin filming the musical Black Nativity in January with Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson in the leads. The film is an adaptation of a Broadway musical that debuted in 1961 and tells the story of a teenage boy who is sent by his single mother to spend Christmas with the grandparents he’s never met. The boy then learns the importance of faith and family though his grandfather’s Christmas Eve sermon. The film has suffered a few delays due to trouble finding a leading man (Samuel L. Jackson and Laurence Fishburne reportedly turned it down before Whitaker came aboard), but the Fox Searchlight release now appears on track for a presumed 2013 holiday season bow. [Black Film]
