didn’t end up being as great as I hoped it would be, but it does have a lot to like, particularly the performance of Tom Hardy as one of the moonshining Bondurant brothers. I also think Shia LaBeouf, an actor I’m unwilling to hate as much as everyone else, gives a good performance, and though Guy Pearce’s snarling Charlie Rakes was a little over the top, even he adds something to the picture by giving everyone else something to play off of.
My recommendation here is a rental, but I’m sure there are some of you out there that may get something out of owning this one.
I have yet to see this film, but a low-budget post-apocalyptic thriller can always be entertaining if done right. Not to the point it’s necessarily worth buying, but a rental is within the realm of possibility.
The Day stars Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Cory Hardrict, Dominic Monaghan, Shannyn Sossamon and Michael Eklund. It played at the Toronto Film Festival and only has a 25% RottenTomatoes rating, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that… at least not if you’re only renting it.
I know some people love this film, but as great as I think the animation is I just felt emotionally detached from the entire picture. The characters are so dull and lifeless I found it impossible to become invested despite a few laughs.
Men in Black III
It sort of surprised me a couple nights ago when a trailer for this played on TV and midway through I thought to myself, What am I doing? I don’t watch trailers.
It’s weird to see a trailer for a DVD and Blu-ray for a movie as big as this one that I have not yet seen… and really have no desire to see.
Step Up Revolution
I missed this in theaters and it’s not one I am champing at the bit to see. The franchise seems to have run its course.
I’m surprised they’re not milking Whitney Houston’s death to sell this one a little harder, but perhaps there is some measure of humanity in Hollywood after all. Either that or this film is so bad that to use such a tactic would only backfire.
Now this movie I have
seen and can confirm it is terrible. One of the year’s worst in fact, you can read my review here
