Foster Earns deMille Award, Costumes of ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Goes Wide in January and More

On behalf of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Kristen Stewart and Simon Baker announced this morning that actor-director-producer Jodie Foster will be the recipient of the Cecil B. deMille Award at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Foster last directed The Beaver starring Mel Gibson and will be seen in Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi feature Elysium next year. Next she’ll begin work on her next directorial outing with Money Monster, which follows a TV personality whose insider trading tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. When a viewer who lost all of his family’s money on a bad tip from the money expert decides to hold him hostage on air, ratings soar as the entire country tunes into this media frenzy.

If you’re already preparing your Oscar predictions for 2014, you may want to add Bennett Miller‘s Foxcatcher to the list as Columbia Pictures announced today they’ve acquired the picture and are aiming to release the film in the fall of 2013. Miller last directed Moneyball for the studio. For more on Foxcatcher click here.

I will be seeing Hitchcock tomorrow afternoon, but the film premieres at the AFI Fest tonight and over at HitFix Guy Lodge wonders if the film will remind the Academy of their own neglect of Alfred Hitchcock. After being nominated for five Oscars, the only Oscar Hitchcock ever “won” was the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1968. The film has everyone wondering just what we can expect (myself included) as many speculate it will be in the same vein as last year’s My Week With Marilyn… if so, I’m not expecting much. [HitFix]

I mentioned it Zero Dark Thirty which will still open in New York and Los Angeles on December 19, but will slowly expand through January, adding a few more cities on January 4, 2013 and go wide on January 11.

Daniel Montgomery at Gold Derby wonders if we’re underestimating Hugh Jackman‘s Oscar chances for his work in Les Miserables. Considering no one has seen the film and probably won’t until the end of November or early December, I’d say the fact I have him in ninth on my charts is estimating him just fine for right now. Speaking of Les Miserables, an Anne Hathaway fansite uploaded a six page spread from Entertainment Weekly taking a look at the costumes from the film. I’ve added the images to this post, just click on the first thumbnail below to browse through and read all six pages. [AHathaway Online]

Finally, Gold Derby posted the following video of Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer talking about how Tom Hanks rescued Cloud Atlas.
