Rise of the Guardians will be honored at the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards with the Hollywood Animation Award, which means they either know something we don’t yet or it’s simply a preemptive effort to name the Best Animated Feature Oscar winner before anyone has even seen the film. Either way, it doesn’t hurt the film’s chances at being recognized next February as the animated race for Oscar is certainly still wide open at this point, though right now my high expectations for Wreck-It Ralph make it my personal favorite at the moment.
Anything Oscar aside, DreamWorks has debuted a new poster for the upcoming film directed by Peter Ramsey and William Joyce, the latter of which won an Oscar just last year for the excellent animated short The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The film is described as an epic and magical adventure that tells the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Jack Frost – legendary characters with previously unknown extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children everywhere.
Rise of the Guardians hits theaters on November 21 and features a voice cast that includes Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law.
