Looking Forward to Spike Lee’s ‘Bad 25’

One film I’m hoping will fit my Toronto Film Festival schedule is Spike Lee‘s Bad 25, described as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Michael Jackson‘s “Bad” album with unseen footage, content shot by Jackson himself, and a treasure chest of findings. If you didn’t know, I was a huge Jackson fan, which was probably evident based on the article I wrote the day after he died.

Bad 25 runs 131 minutes long and is divided into two parts: artists today who were influenced by Michael, and people who worked by his side — musicians, songwriters, technicians, engineers, people at the label — all committed to Michael and the follow-up to the biggest record of all time, “Thriller.”

Interviewees include Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Cee Lo Green, Mariah Carey and Martin Scorsese, the latter of which directed the full short film for Jackson’s title song, which I have included at the bottom of this post. But first a clip from the documentary has come online featuring Joe Pytka who directed Jackson’s video for “The Way You Make Me Feel”.

Bad 25 will premiere in Toronto, but will follow that up with an airing on ABC on Thanksgiving night.

Give the clip a watch below and then check out the “Bad” video featuring a young Wesley Snipes getting a taste of just how “bad” Michael was.
