‘Chicago’ and ‘Footloose’ Producers Take Over 2013 Oscar Awards

The Academy announced today that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce the 85th Academy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, February 24, 2013. The duo aren’t exactly high profile names and certainly less recognizable than the rumored involvement of “Saturday Night Live” head honcho Lorne Michaels, but they do have some recognizable credits to their names, especially when it comes to putting on a show.

Their credits include the Best Picture winning musical Chicago as well as the recent Footloose and Hairspray remakes. Zadan also produced the original 1984 Footloose. The duo also collaborated on the recnt television series “SMASH” as well as Broadway, Tony Award-winning revivals of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Promises, Promises.”

So, they have some credibility even though they aren’t household names.

I thought I would also take this moment to let you know the 2013 Awards Calendar is now available in The Contenders section of the site where you can see everything that’s on the horizon for the remainder of this year and the first three months of the next. You can browse the schedule here.

Behind-the-scenes I have also started compiling my Oscar predictions for this year, which will begin to debut when I return from the Toronto International Film Festival. So stay tuneed!
