First Clip from Brandon Cronenberg’s ‘Antiviral’

This year’s Cannes Film Festival has offered a pleasant mix of features from slow moving art house cinema to the wildly off the wall intensity of Brandon Cronenberg‘s celebrity obsessed debut feature Antiviral and I was disappointed I didn’t have any video to show you before, or at least at the time, I posted my review a few days ago. That has been remedied.

I now have the first clip for the film, which centers on Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones), an employee at a company that specializes in the harvesting of celebrity diseases, which they then sell to adoring fans looking to get as close as possible to those they idolize. Sid, however, is doing more than injecting his clients, he’s injecting himself, smuggling the virus out of the company and then selling it on the black market.

Things take a spin for the worse though when Sid injects himself with the blood of a celebrity that turns up dead. Thing is, as much as he now must be concerned the virus running through his veins is going to kill him, he also has to worry about the people you to get him as he’s now carrying the “Holy Grail” of celebrity viruses.

Antiviral has not yet been picked up for domestic distribution, but it will be, even if it has to wait to be screened in Toronto where I’m sure either IFC Midnight or Magnolia will snatch it up. Don’t worry, you’ll see it, and Cronenberg fans… you’re going to enjoy it and you’ll be interested to see where Brandon goes from here.
