Ray Liotta Gets Tossed Around in First Clip from ‘Killing Them Softly’

Last night I posted the first clip from The Paperboy (watch that here) and this morning I have for you the first clip from Andrew Dominik‘s first feature since The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford five years ago.

Killing them Softly is an adaptation of George V. Higgins’s New Orleans novel set in following professional enforcer, Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game. The film also features Scoot McNairy (Monsters), Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods), James Gandolfini, Vincent Curatola, Max Casella and Bella Heathcote who stars in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows hitting theaters this Friday.

The film also features Sam Shepard, Ray Liotta and a gentleman named Slaine whom you’ll probably recognize from both of Ben Affleck’s directorial outings Gone Baby Gone and The Town. These three are the focus of attention in this just released clip, which features Shepard and Slaine playing the enforcers and Liotta getting tossed out the back door in a way that hints at just what kind of film this may be as Dominik chooses not to show the indoor violence but instead the end result, perhaps so later bits of violence pack a more powerful punch.

Either way I’m looking forward to seeing this one at Cannes where it screens Tuesday, May 22, after which I will hustle and have a review online as soon as I’ve managed to process the feature. Killing Them Softly will hit domestic theaters later this year on September 21.
