‘Gladiator’ Goof, Hill for Scorsese’s ‘Wolf,’ Copley for ‘Maleficent’ and New Release Dates

First off, I thought this was pretty funny. A Reddit user posted the above screen capture from Gladiator pointing out the gentleman to the left in t-shirt and jeans just as Maximus (Russell Crowe) is asking, “Are you not entertained?!?!?” [source]

Jonah Hill is set to join Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street with Martin Scorsese directing. The film is based on the Jordan Belfort memoir, which will find DiCaprio is playing Belfort, a Long Island penny stock broker who served 20 months in prison for participating in a massive 1990s securities fraud that involved widespread corruption on Wall Street and in the corporate banking world, including mob infiltration. Belfort served as an inspiration for Ben Younger’s 2000 movie Boiler Room. [source]

Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) is set to direct an adaptation of John le Carre’s novel “Our Kind of Traitor” from a script written by Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman), which follows the relationship between a young couple and the charismatic Russian criminal they are persuaded to help defect. The story takes place in London, Paris, Moscow and Tangiers. [source]

Sharlto Copley (District 9) is in negotiations to play King Stefan opposite Angelina Jolie in Disney’s Maleficent, a live-action deconstruction of the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale told from the perspective of the princess’ evil nemesis, Maleficent (Jolie). Elle Fanning will play Princess Aurora, the young beauty sent into a lengthy slumber in the classic tale. [source]

The cast for Despicable Me 2 is beginning to fill out with Steve Coogan coming on to voice what may end up being multiple characters and previous members of the voice cast — Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand and Miranda Cosgrove — returning to reprise their respective roles as Miss Hattie, Dr. Nefario and Margo. The film is currently slated for a July 3, 2013 release. [source]

Brad Bird (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) has been set to direct 1952 for Disney (via source) with a script from Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, “Lost”) and Jeff Jensen with absolutely no details on what it may be about, though online webheads help us out by noting 1952 “is big in UFO lore. It’s the year Project Blue Book started.”

Slashfilm points out the following from Wikipedia:

The 1952 Washington D.C. UFO incident, also known as the Washington flap or the Washington National Airport Sightings, was a series of unidentified flying object reports from July 12 to July 29, 1952, over Washington D.C.

Sofia Vergara and Amber Heard are in negotiations to join the cast of Robert Rodriguez‘s Machete Kills. Vergara is in talks to play the leather-clad Madame Desdemona, whose Mexican harlots have information that Machete needs with Heard in talks to play an assassin who goes by the code name Miss San Antonio. The film is set to begin filming later this month. [source]
