2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

Well, the Screen Actors Guild Awards certainly won’t be as raucous as the Golden Globes, and will probably be a little more pretentious and boring than the upcoming Oscars, but I am going to be live-blogging them nonetheless and I hope you’ll join me.

Over the next few hours (and pages) I will be covering the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards live with up-to-the-minute commentary and winners updated in the right-hand-column as soon as they are announced. On top of that, winners will also show up on the official RopeofSilicon Twitter page as well.

This is my third year live-blogging the SAG Awards and if you are here early you can check out previous installments at the following links to get an idea of how I go about things: 2010 | 2009 | Live Blog Home.

You can check out the full list of nominees right here and to browse the RopeofSilicon user predictions on who the users predict will win click right here.

While reading I will highlight all winners like this so they are easier to notice while reading.

The show begins at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST and I will begin live updates around 4:00 PM PST or so with red carpet commentary, so while we wait for things to get started why don’t you comment below and let everyone know where you are reading the blog from and I will be back shortly with the start of live commentary.

4:05:30 PM: I’m locked on E! for the next hour and dreading every minute of it. Hopefully someone will say something interesting, such as when Sofia Vergara said she wished she had size A boobs so she didn’t have to strap everything in… Then everyone within earshot booed.

4:07:07 PM: I should also mention at the outset, we are testing a new caching system here on the site to hopefully improve performance so every now and then you may see a delay in some of my posts, but the trade off is never crashing… You give… You take.

4:09:06 PM: Jane Lynch just said she wants to be the “creamy white center to that orgy” when Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem’s name were mentioned.

4:10:31 PM: Okay, I have to admit.. that Lynch quote still has me smiling.

4:10:56 PM: January Jones is covering her January’s this time around, especially compared to that Globes dress.

4:14:22 PM: Mila Kunis is looking good… and a little annoyed at her handlers.

4:15:30 PM: Giuliana just asked January Jones if she’d like to be telepathic in real life, an X-Men: First Class nod just as much as it is a stupid question (yes, they do exist).

4:16:20 PM: Claire Danes looks great and she’s obviously a front runner tonight for “Temple Grandin”. I wonder if her film career will ever have a resurgence.

4:17:28 PM: Uh oh, our first SAG winners have been announced… Stunt Performers from Inception and “True Blood” won for Best Film and Television Stunt Ensembles

4:24:23 PM: Natalie Portman is wearing $2 million Tiffany’s earrings.

4:24:56 PM: Now Giuliana Rancic is giving Natalie Portman baby name advice. I am sure Natalie is just praying for the day the Oscars are over so people can stop talking about the pregnancy.

4:26:01 PM: Hilary Swank is next up… I wondered if E! was going to go with the Kardashians because they were behind Portman during her interview.

4:30:38 PM: Now poor Nicole Kidman is trying to think of how to answer a stupid question.

4:31:33 PM: Can’t wait to hear Christian Bale’s answers to Giuliana’s questions.

4:32:14 PM: Christian Bale’s birthday is today… So there’s that.

4:33:56 PM: Giuliana just melted a little when Bale hugged Amy Adams… this is just silly.

4:35:45 PM: Giuliana tells James Franco, “I love Twitter.” Franco’s answer, “Twitter? Really?”

4:41:27 PM: “What do you think of the nickname JT?” That’s Giuliana’s question for Justin Timberlake.

4:42:27 PM: This red carpet is my own personal nightmare.

4:44:38 PM: Is “Indian giver” accepted terminology? Because Giuliana just threw it out there after JT gave away the mini Jim Beam she gave him.

4:53:23 PM: Oh boy, Kim Kardashian, because she’s important.

4:59:16 PM: Okay, going to page break it as we move to the actual show.
