Top Ten Worst Movies of 2010

…that I saw

I typically don’t like making “Worst of” lists because I tend to avoid several films throughout the year that I know I probably wouldn’t like. So, when reading through this list just know these are the top ten worst films of the year among those I’ve seen.

I’ve perused the lists of others on the internet and noticed titles such as The Bounty Hunter, Marmaduke, Killers, Flipped, Grown-Ups, The Nutcracker In 3D, Little Fockers, Cats and Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore, You Again, Skyline, Yogi Bear, Burlesque, The Last Song, Dear John, Life as We Know It, Vampires Suck or Lottery Ticket. I didn’t see any of these and have no intention of seeing them. So please take that into consideration.

However, before we get to the ten there were a few that fell shy of making the list, including The Tourist, Legion, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jonah Hex, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Winnebago Man, Tales from Earthsea, Megamind, Robin Hood, Nowhere Boy, Dinner for Schmucks and Faster. I’m not sure what it means to a film to not be among the top ten worst films, but I guess it means the films I just mentioned get a slight reprieve for the time being. Not to mention it may be one of the last times I mention any of them, outside of The Tourist being a multiple Golden Globe nominee.

So, with some sense of perspective, let’s get to my ten worst films of 2010.

Many films could have occupied this tenth spot, but the boredom inflicted on the audience with this uninspired remake signifies a studio system that has simply run out of good ideas, but still have a need to fill their release calendar.

I just wonder if this will be the film to break the back of Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, a production company that has brought us six remakes of classic horror films over the past ten years, but with all the talk of The Birds and a sequel to Friday the 13th we haven’t heard a peep since A Nightmare on Elm Street was released back in April.

Even if you liked the first hour and 23 minutes of this film, the final five minutes should have infuriated you. To see this film has a 72% positive rating at RottenTomatoes just tells me there are very few critics out there I can actually trust.

Billed as a sci-fi thriller with even the potential for some horror, Splice does have a mildly interesting opening, but then it devolves into Adrien Brody having sex with the female version of the Jeepers Creepers monster and from there it becomes laughable.

I’ve had people tell me I should have expected it to turn into the campy mess it became, but no one in their right mind would have expected what was to come after the film’s first hour. If you did, good on yah, you’re better than me.
