Horror is Cheap… ‘Piranha 3D – The Sequel’ is in the Works

I just received a press release from Dimension Films boasting over the success of this weekend’s new release Piranha 3D, a film that managed $10.1 million at the box-office and received a wealth of good reviews from enough critics to now be “Certified Fresh” by RottenTomatoes with an 81% RottenTomatoes rating. Not too bad, though I can’t say I was lucky enough to have such a good time with it, a result I don’t necessarily blame on the film. You can check out my review here.

With that said, producer Mark Canton stated, “We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3D, but cheering for it. And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

That’s about as far as the news goes though SlashFilm is speculating using an interview director Alexandre Aja gave saying, “We had many ideas. There is the Full Moon Party in Thailand, a huge event with like 200,000 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”

You would have to assume that by the time the sequel rolled around we’d be watching these people get eaten by the “adult” piranha, which I will admit could be fun.

How about you, interested?
