William Hurt will star in director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood at Universal and Imagine. He’ll star opposite Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave, Mark Strong, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Oscar Isaacs and Lea Seydoux in the film.
In the action-drama, written by Brian Helgeland, Hurt plays William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke, a historical figure who was one of the most powerful men in Europe. Marshall was a servant to the Plantagenet kings and one of the best jousters of the era.
The movie just started filming in the U.K.; Scott is producing with Imagine’s Brian Grazer.
Universal is targeting a May 14, 2010 release.
