Brand New Poster for ‘Australia’ and a Note on the Ending Controversy

The movie world was lit on fire yesterday as word Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming epic Australia had its ending changed at the insistence of 20th Century Fox studio execs from sad to happy. You can get all the spoilery details right here. Well, I had a long chat with a Fox rep yesterday about the situation, and what I got from the conversation was that Luhrmann would not have changed the ending had he not wanted to, regardless of what Fox suits wanted. In a short email message sent to me one sentence pretty much seemed to sum up the conversation:

Baz Luhrmann is a “final cut” director and the studio has always been supportive of his choices.

So now you have both sides of the argument, and when a director is said to have “final cut” that is a grand position to have for a helmer.

However, let’s push all that aside. Regardless of rumors and speculation, this is Baz Luhrmann, the guy that brought us Moulin Rouge! and makes a movie every 5-7 years. How can you not be interested in seeing his next film?

Fox just sent me a brand new poster from the flick and to my knowledge it hasn’t been seen anywhere else outside of a small version over at Apple. You can check it out directly below and if you click here you can get the larger version along with one more new poster from the film.

Australia stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman and hits theaters on November 26. Oh, and Kidman and Jackman were on “Oprah” yesterday and Oprah’s site has a bunch of pics and recaps from the show, click here for that.
