You Won’t Believe Why Val Kilmer is Replacing Will Arnett in ‘Knight Rider’ as K.I.T.T.

Will Arnett has already recorded his voice as the talking super car K.I.T.T. in the upcoming “Knight Rider” reboot set to debut in only a couple of weeks on NBC. Everyone from NBC execs to the producers Doug Liman, Dave Bartis and Dave Andron were cool with the performance. So, why did Arnett get booted and why is Val Kilmer taking is place?

Well, Arnett has apparently done voice-over work for General Motors — as the voice of GMC Trucks — for the better part of the last 10 years (who knew?). Why does this matter? Well, K.I.T.T. is played by a Ford Mustang. Rut ro! Ford is a part of the marketing and the logo is all over the place. Word is GM didn’t like this and actually asked Arnett to pull out.

“I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new ‘Knight Rider’ movie,” Arnett told Variety. “However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project.”

The move actually probably helps the production by getting a bigger name in Kilmer, but what a pile of corporate bullshit the whole situation is.
