Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci revealed which Autobots and Decepticons will appear in Transformers today live on Yahoo! and I have the full scoop for you. I did my best in quickly recapping what Kurtzman and Orci said.
Almost puling an X-Men the writers took a few characters that might not be as recognizeable leaving room for some more recognizeable characters in the future. Much in the way X-Men introduced Nightcrawler in X2 and Beast and Juggernaut in X3.
Optimus Prime – Gotta be front and center. Can’t make the movie without him. Bumblebee – The scout. Same underdog VW character you have known and love. The difference however will be that he is a Camaro, not a VW Bug. Reason being was based on design. Jazz – Rock and roll, loyal friend. Ratchet – Originally apeared in the cartoon as an ambulance will have a new form, medical and science officer. The smartest one if you need help. Ironhide – The muscle, tough soldier, can make any Transformer bust an o-ring just with his stare. he is optimus’ oldest friend.
Megatron – Get a little bit behind the evil. Megatron doesn’t see the good in humans. A little more realistic, as opposed to pure evil he thinks it is his right to reign supreme. Starscream – The backstabber. Brawl – An extremely pissed off Decepticon. He is always ready for battle even when a fight isn’t warranted. Bone Crusher – Closest thing to a Constructicon. Kind of hates all the other Decipticons except for Megatron. Barricade – Scouting the Earth looking for Autobots. His alt mode is a cop car. He uses his alt mode to lure and trap the humans Scorponok – Closest to Beast Wars. Frenzy – A character who had some evolution. Originally started out as Soundwave but as the script developed he had some contradictions. Rather shove a squre peg into a round hole let’s create Frenzy. A smaller form and able to infiltrate spaces around you, like a stealth spy. Blackout – A guy who comes in and takes out all the humans ability to fight back. Sends out pulse blasts, etc. One of the biggest vehicles, a mover and a shaker, a transport.
Transformers is set for theaters July 4, 2007. Click here for more on the film including the trailer and here for the Yahoo! page.
