Jim Carrey Getting ‘Generation Award’ from MTV

MTV announced today that Jim Carrey will receive the MTV Generation Award for his career and acting roles at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Tom Cruise was the first to receive the honor at last year’s Movie Awards ceremony. In addition, MTV will honor Spike Lee with the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award for his powerful and thought-provoking film, Do The Right Thing. Paying homage to those films that have made a lasting effect on moviegoers and the MTV audience, The Breakfast Club took Silver Bucket honors at last year’s event. Hosted by Jessica Alba, the 2006 MTV Movie Awards will film June 3rd at Sony Picture Studios in Culver City, CA, and premiere to audiences nationwide on Thursday, June 8th at 9pm ET/PT on MTV.

In other news it was announced that Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Eva Mendes, Zach Braff, Rosario Dawson, Anna Faris and Borat Sagdiyev will round out the cast of announced presenters for the star studded ceremony. They join Colin Farrell, Jessica Simpson, Kevin Spacey, Samuel L. Jackson, Amanda Bynes, Dane Cook, Kate Beckinsale, Jamie Foxx, Owen Wilson, Justin Timberlake, Matt Dillon, Will Ferrell, T.I., Kate Hudson, Ludacris, Rebecca Romijn, Kate Bosworth, Famke Janssen, John C. Reilly and Brandon Routh who were previously announced. In addition, Christina Aguilera, AFI and Gnarls Barkley will each take the stage to deliver unforgettable live performances.

Up for starring roles at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards are the 40-Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers, each receiving five nominations. Also vying for the spotlight are Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Hustle & Flow, Sin City and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith with three nominations each. MTV will also celebrate the all new categories of Best Hero, Sexiest Performance and the mtvU Student Filmmaker Award for the first time ever.
