LARTER AND EGAN TAPPED FOR RE3

Yesterday we syndicated the news that Ashanti was joining the cast of Resident Evil: Extinction and now The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Ashanti is indeed part of the cast and along for the ride are Ali Larter and Chris Egan.

Larter will play Claire, a new character to the film franchise who was introduced in the video game “Resident Evil 2.” Claire leads a convoy across the Nevada desert. Alice (Jovovich) joins them in their fight for survival as they battle against the evil Umbrella Corp. Ashanti will play Nurse Betty, while Egan will play Mikey.

The film begins lensing Monday (May 19) in Mexico.

HUTCHERSON TAKES FRASER’S JOURNEY
Josh Hutcherson is joining the 3-D remake of Journey to the Center of the Earth pitting him alongside Brendan Fraser.

The film from Walden Media and New Line Cinema will be a contemporary update in 3-D of Jules Verne classic science fiction novel and will revolve around a scientist (Fraser) and his troubled nephew (Hutcherson) on an expedition in Iceland who stumble upon a mystery that leads them on a thrill-ride adventure, bringing them face to face with never-before-seen worlds and creatures beneath Earth’s surface.

The film starts shooting June 10 in Montreal.

50 CENT CALLS UNI’S BET

I guess no one at Universal saw Get Rich or Die Tryin’ because they have just picked up Live Bet with 50 Cent attached to star.

The pic is described as a character-based heist film and is based on the actual existence of underground clubs in Manhattan that place bets and wagers on illegal car racing.

MORTIMER IS ONE OF THE GUYS

Emily Mortimer is joining the Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey comedy Used Guys for 20th Century Fox and director Jay Roach.

The pic is set to begin filming on June 11 and revolves around two men who are returned and then go in search of the lost meaning of manhood. Mortimer will play Michelle, one of the few women who has not adapted to the idea of buying robot mates but reluctantly buys Stiller’s character. Once they connect, they start to fall in love.

SECOND RATE ENSEMBLE GETS PARENTAL GUIDANCE

I thought Frankie Muniz was quitting acting for a while and was going to go race cars? Nevertheless, he is heading up the second rate ensemble made up of Muniz, Ryan Pinkston, Jamie Kennedy, Andy Milonakis and Matthew Lillard.

The indie pic is called Parental Guidance Suggested, a teen sketch sex comedy marking the directorial debut of writers-directors Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson.

In the pic Muniz stars as a teen who loses his virginity with his girlfriend (Ashley Schneider), only to find she wants to take things much further, including farm animals and midgets.

FREEMAN IN TALKS FOR FEAST

Morgan Freeman is in talks to star in the drama Feast of Love, a film based on a Charles Baxter novel in which a a community of friends in Oregon and is described as an exploration of the magical, mysterious and sometimes painful incarnations of love. Freeman will play philosophy professor Harry Scott.

Oscar-winning helmer Robert Benton is directing the Allison Burnett penned the screenplay.

UNIVERSAL SUFFERS ANGUISH
Anguish, the Jake Wade Wall pitch based on the 1987 Spanish horror film, “Anguistia” has just been picked up by Universal Pictures.

The original film was a horror-movie-within-a-horror movie. As an audience in a small theater watches a pic about an optometrist on a killing spree, a maniac begins killing the moviegoers.

RAINING FROM BROADWAY TO BIG SCREEN
Julia Roberts may be getting horrible reviews for her stage debut in Richard Greenberg’s “Three Days of Rain”, but that isn’t stopping the play from getting a bigscreen adaptation.

A spring 2007 start date is set for the flick, which tells the story which follows a brother, sister and their childhood friend, who regroup following the death of the siblings’ father, a celebrated architect.
