The Casting Couch: April 11, 2006

I have finally decided that if it isn’t casting news that we haven’t been clammoring for I am goiing this route and it is going to be called “The Casting Couch”. This way it doesn’t take forever to write and you get it all in one quick shot.

Today’s edition is more of a directorial feature as we learn where David Dobkin and Jay Chandrasekhar are heading next as well as one quick casting story. Here goes…

DOBKIN GETS R.I.P.D.
This bit of news came out a while back when it was reported by the boys over at CHUD.com, but since I didn’t report it back then I felt it was about time once it finally hit the trades. Variety has the story telling us that Wedding Crashers helmer, David Dobkin, is set to direct R.I.P.D. for Universal Pictures.

R.I.P.D. is yet another comicbook adaptation, which follows the story of a murdered cop that was recruited to work in the Rest in Peace Dept., a ghost-busting police force (itself comprised of ghosts) that battles spirits unready to depart this world.

BROKEN LIZARD TROUPE ARE AMBULANCE CHASERS
Jay Chandrasekhar, the fella that directed the Dukes of Hazzard and is at the lead of the Broken Lizard crew, is set to helm yet another feature for Warner Bros. this time in the form of Ambulance Chasers. Chandrasekhar is already putting the final touches on Beerfest for WB, which will be released later this year and Ambulance Chasers will continue in proper Broken Lizard fashion as it will be a wild ride pitting two fiercely competitive personal-injury lawyers against each other as they fight over a new client.

The script will be penned by Jon Zack who is one of the writers on Shrek the Third and previous credits include The Perfect Score and Out Cold.
