Roth Picks Up Stephen King’s ‘Cell’

I am a huge advocate of Stephen King, but lately it seems to me his stories have only gotten worse and worse, and when I took a peek at his latest novel “Cell” I put it back down and it is currently the only King title I don’t own. That said, Eli Roth and Dimension Films feel differently on the matter as Roth has been brought aboard to direct a feature adaptation of the story.

Speaking of the story, Variety describes it as a throwback to King’s early apocalyptic horror novels. In a single moment, a pulse sent out through cell phones around the world turns every phone user into a crazed, murderous zombie. See, does that really sound all that good?

Now, the Variety article does mention the already announced feature adaptation of King’s short story “1408”, which is actually one hell of a yarn. Dimension Films is also handling that title with Mikael Hafstrom directing and casting just about to get underway.

Roth’s work on Cell will begin after he finishes Hostel 2. The helmer plans on writing the adaptation or at least co-writing it, it all depends on how much time he has based on the Prague shoot for Hostel 2.
