For me the important news here is not necessarily the fact that the Jim Henson Co. has set Genndy Tartakovsky to helm the sequel to the 1982 fantasy The Dark Crystal. The news is that the movie is actually happening!
Back in May of last year we reported a story out of Variety that there was a planned sequel, but I think we all realize that talk is just talk until something happens… Well, it looks like things are happening as we now not only have a helmer, but a title and a storyline.
The film will be called Power of the Dark Crystal and is set hundreds of years after the first pic. The film follows a mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun.
I cannot wait to see the magic of puppetry come back to life in only the way teh Henson Co. can do it.
