Singleton Directs the ‘Convoy’

When I think of John Singleton my mind first goes way back to Boyz n the Hood and Higher Learning, following that I think of 2 Fast 2 Furious and then this year’s modest hit Four Brothers, but this new one sounds a bit out of the helmer’s genre.

The Hollywood Reporter is carrying a story telling us Singleton is in negotiations to helm a film called Convoy for Paramount Pictures. The film seems to be less about the street thug life and more about politics as it revolves around a group of U.S. truck drivers who make a one-year commitment to drive goods for U.S. contractors through the Afghan war zone because of financial hardships back home.

Don’t get me wrong, Singleton is a talented director, it just peaked my attention to learn that there might not be a role for a one-time rap artist. Then again, Ice Cube or Marky Mark behind the wheel of a big rig just might be the perfect Three Kings reunion feature. Throw in Tyrese as a kicker and you already have your “convoy”.
