First ‘Transformers’ Now ‘Voltron’

There should have been odds in Vegas to try and determine how long it would take for another popular 80s sci-fi cartoon to jump on the feature film bandwagon after DreamWorks and Paramount announced the official release date for the live-action/CGI Transformers film.

It seems like 13 days would have been the winning bid as The Hollywood Reporter announced that Mark Gordon along with music producer Pharrell Williams and producers Mark Costa and Ford Oelman have hatched a plan to bring “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” to the big screen.

The animated feature debuted on television in 1984 and the feature film will center around five maverick explorer-pilots who must travel to the planet Arus to learn how to operate Voltron, a giant mechanical warrior formed by five smaller robots.
