‘Star Trek’s’ Scotty Has Passed Away

It is being reported by CNN that James Doohan, best known for his role as Scotty on the original “Star Trek” series died at 5:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) at his Redmond, Washington, home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side. Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens told CNN the cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer’s disease.

At the age of 85 Doohan leaves behind a legacy and a legion of fans to which Doohan said farewell to last year in Hollywood as fans joined together for “Beam Me Up Scotty…One Last Time.” Over the course of three days Doohan was roasted, toasted and starred on the Walk of Fame.

E! Online quoted Doohan’s “Star Trek” co-star Walter Koenig as he said of the event, “You’re celebrating a life and times of a talent, of a fellow performer who we’ve grown to know over four decades or so,” Koenig said last year. “I just think it’s a beautiful gesture.”
