Holmes Off ‘Batman 2’? Is Sequel Confirmed?

The question marks you see in the headline are primarily due to the fact that some of this is unconfirmed and a bit ambiguous as ComicBookMovie, BoxOfficeMojo and possibly PageSix are all carrying bits and pieces of information regarding the future of Batman Begins.

First off, a sequel has got to be in the works. Batman Begins was way too good for there not to be one, they left it open for a sequel and with the film pulling in $72.8 million in the first weekend it is a matter of when it will be announced and who will be playing the Joker.

Warner Bros.’ head of distribution Dan Fellman told Box Office Mojo, “It took the vision of a filmmaker like Christopher Nolan to bring it back, with a great script and cast. We’re well positioned moving forward with the summer. We’re going to have a first week of $85 million, and [Batman and Robin] had $59 million. That’s enough to bring Batman back for a sequel.”

So what about Katie Holmes? Personally, I don’t see any problem with Holmes, and while her recent rise to publicity stardom thanks to her relationship with Tom Cruise is a bit of a distraction, the girl can act, at least well enough to be in a superhero movie, and why break up the cast now?

Well, that is what may be happening as Holmes may be the only one out of the sequel as ComicBookMovie quotes a PageSix article, an article of which I could not find, so take all of this with a grain of salt. The quote read:

“Everyone is in agreement that the movie’s strength is with Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.”

Then adding of Katie Holmes, “She won’t be in the sequel… the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress.”

“Warner is happy that people are now focusing on who’ll be playing the JOKER rather than Katie and Tom.”

My gut tells me Holmes will be back as will the rest of the cast, but I don’t think Hollywood makes its decisions based on my gut feeling.
