Cumming Not Returning for ‘X3’

The Internet has been a live-wire of disgust ever since Matthew Vaughn left the X-Men 3 director’s chair and Brett Ratner took over helming duties.

Ratner has never really shown much in the way of directing ability considering he hasn’t exactly worked with material that took more than a camera and a couple of actors, such as the Rush Hour films, and then with last year’s bust After the Sunset. Nevertheless, Ratner is in, but guess who is not… the man in blue.

Alan Cumming provided a shocking appearance as Nightcrawler in X2 as his attack on the White House was certainly one hell of a way to kick off the second film. So how does his character get repaid? By not getting picked up for the third film!

That’s right, according to Cumming’s official website he is not reprising his role, here is a quote:

EX X MAN!! Alan will NOT be appearing in X3. Fox has not picked up his option to play Nightcrawler for a second movie.

The crazy part of this is that back on January 30th Cumming was out promoting the box-ofice bust Son of the Mask and dropped this bit of news to SuperHeroHype!

“I signed for two films, so I’m going to. The last I heard is that we’re starting on the 20th of June, but they don’t have a script or a director yet so that may be pushed a little bit. But they have to release it in May of 2006 for some reason so it’s gonna be shot in the summer.”

As for now, we just have to sit back and wonder… What will happen next?
