A ‘Dark Crystal’ Sequel!?!?!?!?

I was floored as this bit of news just popped up over at Variety. The Jim Henson Co. is planning to make a sequel to its 1982 fantasy classic The Dark Crystal.

That’s right, forget this CGI animated crap, let’s go back to what was, in one word, AMAZING!

I am a huge fan of The Dark Crystal and the new film, which is apt to be named The Power of the Dark Crystal was written by David Odell and Annette Duffy and will start shooting this fall for delivery early in 2007, and while it is a bit of a downer, the film will combine live-action animatronic characters with CG animation to represent their world.

Okay, so I can stand a bit of CG, but at least the animatronic characters will be there as well.

Lisa Henson of the Jim Henson Co. told Variety, “The Dark Crystal created its own world. We are now going to fully explore this universe through the sequel film, which will be followed up with an animated series as well as interactive games and other media.”

A director has not yet been chosen, Frank Oz directed the original film.

I should also mention that The Dark Crystal will be made available to own on the Sony PSP on July 26th.
