The Breakdown:
The chances of Hilary Swank sweeping the Globes, SAGs and Oscars in the Best Actress category are highly likely as she will be heading into the 77th Academy Awards the definite favorite, but Imelda Staunton proved at the BAFTAs that she is not to be underestimated as the British actress took home the award.
Staunton earned critical acclaim in the period piece Vera Drake in which she plays a caring elderly mother, while living a life in secret in which she visits women and helps them induce miscarriages for unwanted pregnancies. Her performance is as emotional as it is tragic and the film itself is definitely up the Academy’s alley.
As for Bening, Moreno and Winslet I wouldn’t expect them to be part of the winners list even though Catalina Sandino Moreno’s portrayal of a Columbian drug “mule” is simply amazing she is definitely the dark horse in this race with Winslet and Bening pulling up the anchor.
