Shane Black Comes in for Universal’s Cold Warrior

Shane Black, whose Warner Bros. action-comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer, became a small cult hit three years ago, has been hired by Universal Pictures to direct Cold Warrior, the spy thriller script from Chuck Mondry about a spy from the Cold War era who comes out of retirement to team with a younger agent from the new school to confront a domestic terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia. Before directing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Black was best known for his screenwriting, particularly the “Lethal Weapon” movies, The Last Boy Scout and The Last Kiss Goodnight.
