Dave Bautista will headline the action thriller Bushwick opposite Jane Levy
Bushwick tells the story of twenty-year-old Lucy (Levy) and war veteran Stupe (Bautista). Texas is trying to secede from the U.S., and NYC is being used as a negotiation tool. Lucy meets Stupe after coming up from the subway into the military invasion of Brooklyn. Together they decide to cross the treacherous five blocks of Bushwick – littered with looters, local militias, the invading forces, and one crazy cousin – in order to get home and be reunited with Lucy’s grandmother.
Bushwick will be directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (Cooties). The film was written by Nick Damici (Cold in July) and Graham Reznik, based upon a story by Murnion and Milott. It will be produced by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Adam Folk of Bullet Pictures.
“We are very excited to have such a talented and dynamic actor join ‘Bushwick,'” says Bolotin. “Dave Bautista is perfect to breathe life into the action packed role.”
“We have been passionately developing this movie for six years,” said Murnion and Milott when the project was first announced earlier this year. “At its core, the film is a very simple story about a relationship, but there are some larger themes that we are addressing as well.”
Bushwick will go into production in New York this year and will complete filming with plenty of time for Bautista to reprise his role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when cameras role on James Gunn sci-fi comic book sequel in February 2016.
WME Global is co-repping U.S. sales with XYZ. Bautista is represented by Gersh, manager Jonathan Meisner and attorney Jay Rosenthal at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp.
