Oh Heavenly Dog Gets a Remake at 20th Century Fox

20th Century Fox will remake Chevy Chase’s 1980 comedy Oh Heavenly Dog

Although Chevy Chase considers 1980s family comedy Oh Heavenly Dog to be his worst movie, it must have at least a few fans at 20th Century Fox as the studio (according to The Hollywood Reporter) is setting in motion plans for a remake.

In the original film, Chase played a private eye who stumbled upon a dead body and is soon after killed himself. In order to get into heaven, he has to go back to Earth by inhabiting the body of a dog (played by the famous movie dog Benji) to solve his own murder.

The new version will be directed by Tim Hill (Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, Hop) from a screenplay by himself and Dave Johnson. Production company Temple Hill (The Maze Runner, Paper Towns) will produce the film alongside Brandon Camp, the son of the original movie’s director and co-writer, Joe Camp, who was responsible for the Benji franchise.

The original Oh Heavenly Dog co-starred Jane Seymour and the recently-departed Omar Sharif
