Bourne 5: Matt Damon Gives New Plot and Locale Details

Matt Damon talks story and locale for Bourne 5

Cameras are just about ready to roll on the new, currently-untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Now BuzzFeed has talked to the actor about what we can expect in terms of plot and location in Bourne 5, which he is co-writing with Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”

As for what far-off locales the story will see this post-Snowden Bourne whisked off to, Damon will be returning to a city very familiar to Ocean’s Eleven fans.

“We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy,” he said. “And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of….” [trails off laughing]

Little is known about the plot of the new film, although it has been confirmed that it will not feature a crossover between Damon’s Bourne and Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross. Julia Stiles will be reprising her franchise role of ex-CIA agent Nicky Parsons, however, with Ex Machina‘s Alicia Vikander in the female lead and Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones as a high-ranking CIA officer.

Frank Marshall will again produce the new film alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon and Greg Goodman also produce.

Production should begin shortly on Bourne 5 as the film is slated to hit the big screen July 29, 2016.
