D23 Interviews: John Lasseter on Toy Story 4

Interview with John Lasseter on Toy Story 4

On Day 1 of Disney’s D23 Expo, Pixar Animation Studios’ John Lasseter, one of the three founders, took the stage to celebrate the 20th Anniversary since the film Toy Story changed the world of animation and put Pixar on the map. Composer Randy Newman (Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Cars) joined him in the celebration. In addition, we learned some new information about the upcoming Toy Story 4. Woody (Tom Hanks) didn’t disappear when Andy passed him on. This time around, the writing team is taking on a love story, and Rashida Jones and Will McCormick (Celeste and Jesse Forever) are joining the group.

In Toy Story 4, which will be directed by Lasseter and co-directed by Josh Cooley, is a love story, something they’ve never done before with these characters. It was revealed today that the sparks will fly between Woody and Bo Peep (previously voiced by Annie Potts), who hasn’t been seen since Toy Story 2.

ComingSoon.net got a chance to chat with Lasseter backstage at the D23 Expo where we asked him about why this was such a personal story for him. We learned all about the inspiration behind the love story, and what this film means to him. We also heard what it was like to announce this in front of thousands of fans at the Expo and about the reaction he got.

Check out what Lasseter had to say below and let us know if you’re excited for the film. Toy Story 4 will hit theaters on June 16, 2017. Stay tuned to ComingSoon.net’s D23 Expo Hub for more news and information from the event.
