Joe Quesada Teases Spider-Man Costume and ‘Great Ideas’ from Marvel Studios

Spider-Man costume will ‘blow people away’

J. Jonah Jameson might have had enough of that wall-crawling menace, but everyone else is clamoring for any information they can about Spider-Man. Speaking with IGN, Marvel’s CCO Joe Quesada (and former Spider-Man artist) offered a fun reveal in that he has seen the brand-new Spider-Man costume and dishes out some high praise for both it and Marvel Studios’ plans for the film.

“It looks awesome. I’ve seen a lot of design work that’s been done on the costume. I think there are elements of it that are really going to blow people away, where they are going to go ‘Ah, that’s Marvel doing Spider-Man.’… It’s Spider-Man. What’s not exciting about that? I can’t imagine there’s a person on planet Earth that can’t relate to some aspect of Spider-Man or Peter Parker, and he is for all intents and purposes, he is Marvel’s Mickey Mouse. He is that icon of so much of what we have was built upon, so to create that movie along with our Sony partners it’s phenomenally exciting. I know Kevin Feige and his team, they’ve some great ideas, some wonderful theories that we have all chimed in on. What’s funny about Spider-Man is that you sit there and you’re at a creative meeting and everybody goes ‘Well what about this? Yeah, of course! That’s what we should be doing, that’s Spider-Man!’ We all seem to be of the same mind about Spider-Man, because there are certain aspects of the character that are just iconic and have been perfect since the moment they were created.”

You can check out Quesada’s interview in the player below with the Spider-Man talk starting at the 4:00 minute mark.

Tom Holland (The ImpossibleIn the Heart of the Sea) will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film and Marisa Tomei is in talks to play Aunt May. Holland will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, set for release on May 6, 2016. Jon Watts (Cop Car) is set to direct the Spider-Man movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28. 2017.

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the Sony 13 years ago.
