Jason Isaacs Boards Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness

Jason Isaacs, best known for role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, has found another antagonist role. According to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, Isaacs will play the villain in The Ring director Gore Verbkinski’s upcoming horror tale, A Cure for Wellness. He joins Dane DeHaan (Kill Your Darlings, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Mia Goth (The Survivalist, Nymphomaniac).

Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, The Lone Ranger) is providing the script for the New Regency project, which follows DeHaan as a man who travels to the Swiss Alps to pick up his boss from a therapeutic institute, only to find that the boss has vanished. Forced to lengthen his stay, DeHaan’s character begins to learn that something sinister is happening. Goth’s character is said to be that of an inmate while Isaac will play the institute’s director, described by the trade as being “an aristocratic man who has dark designs on a [Goth’s character].”

Verbinski, who last directed The Lone Ranger, will also produce A Cure for Wellness through his Blind Wink Productions with plans to begin production in Europe this month. Among Verbinski’s other credits are the first three films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the Nicolas Cage-led dark comedy drama The Weather Man and ILM’s surreal animated adventure Rango, which reteamed Verbinski with frequent collaborator Johnny Depp.

Isaacs, meanwhile, recently lent his voice to The Inquisitor on Disney XD’s “Star Wars Rebels” and starred on USA’s short-lived mystery thriller series, “Dig.”

20th Century Fox will be distributing A Cure for Wellness.
