WB Schedules The Accountant, Arms and the Dudes and Project XX

First announced back in 2012, Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a big screen sequel to director Nima Nourizadeh’s “found footage” comedy Project X. Today, the studio has officially dated the new film, titled Project XX, for release on August 19, 2016. They’ve meanwhile set Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, Jeffrey Tambor, Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons, for release on January 29, 2016, and Arms & the Dudes, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, for release on March 11, 2016.

The Accountant stars Affleck as a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a lethal assassin. The January 29 release date was originally being held for a mystery New Line horror film, but that film will now arrive one week earlier, on January 22. The Accountant, then, will face off against Walt Disney Pictures’ The Finest Hours, starring Ben Foster, Casey Affleck, Chris Pine, Eric Bana and Holliday Grainger, as well Kung Fu Panda 3, the third entry in DreamWorks Animation’s hit animated franchise.

Arms & the Dudes, directed by Todd Phillips, follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a $300 million deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government. It will open opposite Gary Ross’ The Free State of Jones, starring Matthew McConaughey, director Cyrus Nowrasteh’s Christ the Lord and a mystery sci fi film from Bad Robot and director Chris Alender.

Project XX, finally, will open against Travis Knight’s stop motion adventure Kubo and the Two Strings, the fourth feature film from LAIKA.
