Jay Baruchel to Direct Goon: Last of the Enforcers

It’s been a few years since we last had a solid update on the status of the proposed Goon sequel, planned to continue the world of the 2011 comedy hit starring Sean William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Alison Pill, Live Schrieber and Eugene Levy. Today, The Hollywood Reporter bring some exciting news about the project, confirming that Baruchel himself will be helming the project, marking his directorial debut. The sequel, now titled Goon: Last of the Enforcers, will enter production this June in Toronto.

Scott is confirmed to reprise his role Doug “The Thug” Glatt for the sequel, scripted by Baruchel and Jesse Chabot. The plot sees Glatt’s team, the Halifax Highlanders, bringing on a new team of players in the midst of a professional hockey player strike.

Baruchel, best known for voicing Hiccup in the hit How to Train Your Dragon franchise, can be seen coming up in Cameron Crowe’s Aloha, hitting theaters May 29. He also stars on the new FXX comedy series, “Man Seeking Woman,” which was recently picked up for a second season.

No Trace Camping’s Jeff Arkuss, David Gross and Jesse Shapira are producing Goon: Last of the Enforcers alongside Caramel Films’ André Rouleau. Evan Goldberg will executive produce.
