Warner Bros. has decided to move back its summer fantasy film Pan, a prequel to the classic J.M. Barrie Peter Pan tale directed by Joe Wright and starring Levi Miller, Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund, from its original release date of July 24 to a fall release on October 9.
This only slightly clears up a busy late July weekend that still includes Adam Sandler’s Pixels, the John Green adaptation Paper Towns, the Jake Gyllenhaal boxing drama Southpaw, and the horror film The Vatican Diaries, so there’s little reason for Warner Bros. or another studio to fill in that gap.
Pan‘s new date will instead put it up against the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap and Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic, but it also gives Warner Bros. the opportunity to premiere the film at one of the September film festivals like Toronto, where many of Wright’s previous films have debuted.
