Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro will star Vincent Gallo (Buffalo 66, The Brown Bunny), who joins Oscar winner Javier Bardem and Maribel Verdu (Y tu mama tambien, Pan’s Labyrinth).
The Buenos Aires-set tale follows a family “marred by tragedy and betrayal.”
“I know choosing Vincent Gallo to star in my film will raise a few eyebrows,” Coppola said, “but I’m betting that seeing him in the role will open some eyes.”
The director indicated the drama was based on some nonfiction experiences but stopped short of calling it autobiographical.
Filming is set to begin March 31 for a release in 2009.
