Hugh Jackman to Headline Faith Based Drama Apostle Paul

Just days after hinting that his years of playing Wolverine in the X-Men films may be coming to an end, Hugh Jackman has, according to Deadline, signed on to headline Apostle Paul at Warner Bros. Pictures. The Academy Award nominee will play the religious figure, known for spreading Christianity in the early days of the first century A.D.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are among the producers on Apostle Paul through their Pearl Street Films. Jackman is expected to take a producer role as well alongside Jennifer Todd and Chris Clarke.

No director is, as of yet, attached to the new film, but Matt Cook is set to provide the screenplay. He’s best known for scripting the upcoming crime drama Triple Nine, which is set to hit theaters this September 11. That film has John Hillcoat directing an ensemble cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Teresa Palmer, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot and Michael B. Jordan.

Jackman, who starred earlier this year in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, can next be seen in Pan, director Joe Wright’s “origin story” take on J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” legend. That film, also starring Garrett Hedlund, Nonso Anozie, Amanda Seyfried and Rooney Mara, hits theaters July 24.
