Matthew Vaughn Plans Ghostgirl Movie

A feature film take on Tonya Hurley’s popular Ghostgirl books is on the way. Variety reports that Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films has acquired the big screen rights to the young adult series, the first book of which was released in 2008 and is officially described as follows:

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. And if I should die before I awake, I pray the popular attend my wake.

Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she’s dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn’t stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.

If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is. In this satirical, yet heartfelt novel, Hurley explores the invisibility we all feel at some times and the lengths we’ll go to be seen.

Vaughn, best known for helming films like Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, will produce Ghostgirl alongside Valerie Van Galder. Vaughn’s latest as a director, Kingsman: The Secret Service, hits theaters on February 13, 2015.

Although it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with Vaughn’s plans for the property, a short stop motion trailer for Ghostgirl was revealed at Comic-Con earlier this year. You can check it out in the player below:
