Dimension Films has announced that Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno, “Arrested Development”) has signed on to star in the cutting edge comedy Youth in Revolt. The screenplay, written by Gustin Nash, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by C.D Payne (“Civic Beauties,” “Revolting Youth: The Further Journals of Nick Twisp,” “Frisco Pigeon Mambo,” and “Cut to the Twisp”). Payne’s self-published “Youth in Revolt” became an underground sensation and garnered a youthful cult following throughout the world. The novel has been published in multiple countries, staged as a play, broadcast over the radio and has been the subject of countless fan-based Web sites.

Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films stated, “Like the book, ‘Youth in Revolt’ will be a cutting edge film with lots of laughter. Michael Cera is fantastic and I think there is no one more perfect for the role of Nick Twisp.”

Michael Cera stated, “I’m very excited to do the movie, it’s my favorite book of all time. And now I won’t have to pay to get my hair cut.”

Youth in Revolt is the irreverent story about the wild adventures of a teenage boy named Nick Twisp who meets the girl of his dreams while on a family vacation and has to turn his life and the lives of all those around him upside down in order to be with her.
